Authenticating documents for use outside the country where they were issued generally involves one of the following special certification procedures, depending on the country of issue and country of use:
Apostille Certification
An Apostille stamp is a special government attestation of authenticity that is recognised in over 120 countries (signatories to the Apostille Convention). A document affixed with an Apostille in the country where it was issued will be directly recognised as valid by the authorities in the country where the document is to be submitted.
Countries that accept Apostilles include:
Netherlands - Spain - Italy - Portugal - Greece - Cyprus - France - Saudi Arabia - Germany - China
See: Signatories to the Apostille Convention
Document Legalization
If your document is issued in a country that is not a signatory to the Apostille Convention or if you intend to submit it in a country that is not a signatory, then your document will require special certification by the authorities of both the issuing and destination country. This is a procedure known as consular legalization.
Countries that require documents to be legalized through embassy attestation include:
United Arab Emirates - Qatar - Thailand - Taiwan - Vietnam
If BOTH the country issuing the document and the country where the document will be used are signatories to the Hague Apostille Convention, documents can be attested by means of Apostille Certification, otherwise documents need to be attested by means of Document Legalization.
Isarey arranges attestation through both Apostille Certification and Consular Legalization. We work internationally with local specialists, including law firms, notaries and certified translators, to provide a fast and secure start-to-finish service with worldwide delivery and collection of documents by secure courier.
