Certify documents issued in Kenya for international use

Legalize documents issued in Kenya, including Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates, Islamic Marriage and Divorce Certificates, University Diplomas and Academic Certificates, Police Clearance Certificates, court documents, trade documents, powers of attorney, and Certificates of no Impediment to Marriage.

Kenyan documents required for submission abroad are legalized by the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and then attested by the embassy of the recipient country in Nairobi. Kenya is not a member of the Apostille Convention and does not issue Apostille Stamps. This means that Kenyan documents generally require an embassy stamp to be valid abroad.

  • Isarey offers expedited document legalization services in Kenya. Legalization at the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs takes 2-3 business days (the time needed for embassy attestation varies by embassy, and can take from a few days to a few weeks depending on the destination country and the availability of appointments).
  • We work with all major High Commissions and Embassies in Nairobi, including the embassies of Spain, Italy, Germany, France, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

Legalize Kenyan Documents

Kenyan documents can be certified for cross-border use through legalization

Consular Legalization

Legalization is a procedure used when a Kenyan document needs to be certified for official use abroad. Each document requires a double certification: first by the authorities of Kenya and secondly by the authorities of the country where the documents will be used (the receiving country). This second certification, which is generally provided by the embassy or consulate representing the receiving country in Kenya, confirms the first certification and so validates the document for official use in the receiving country.

Certified Translation

Where Kenyan documents are to be used abroad and where the receiving country has a different official language, certified translation may also be required. Isarey takes care of any certified translations required as part of the document attestation process, ensuring that translations are carried out and certified in accordance with local regulations.

Note that a certified translation on its own only provides assurance that the translation itself is accurate and true; it does not confirm the authenticity of the original document. The original document must be legalized for a certified translation to carry equivalent legal weight.
